MySQL - The world's most popular open source databaseAnnounced on September 11th 2012, cPanel will continue to support MySQL 4.0 and 4.1 through the life span of version cPanel & WHM Version 11.32, but anyone using a later version (such as 11.34) will need to upgrade to the MySQL 5.0, 5.1 or 5.5 branches.

It’s been several years since Oracle stopped their own support of MySQL 4.0.  It was actually announced in December 2008 that the support lifecycle was ending.  They continued to provide extended support until December 2009.  The makers of cPanel decided to continue their own support for the version through 2012.

If you are using Version 4.x of MySQL, please upgrade.  This is a very old version and there’s been many exploits.  Hands-on Web Hosting stopped support on our shared servers for MySQL 4.x many years ago, but there are still users on VPS or Dedicated Servers that require the older version.  Support for this version will end in cPanel as of Version 11.34 of cPanel & WHM.  As a result, our own support for the version will cease at that time also.

In order to upgrade to Version 11.34, users must first update their MySQL version as the systems will not allow you to upgrade cPanel/WHM without first updating MySQL to version 5.x.

All customers and readers are strongly encouraged to upgrade to the newer version of MySQL.  If you need help performing the task, please open a support ticket and a system administrator will assist you.
